Pioneering a New Luxury
Creating an equitable world where land, animal and people are cherished, nurtured and respected.
If you’re seeking ethical, sustainable products of the highest quality, Tengri offers the finest fabrics with untainted provenance. Our commitment to truly sustainable lifestyles is redefining luxury.
We source rare, noble fibres from some of the most remote parts of the world via our transparent supply chain. Innovating through design, systems change, heritage craftsmanship and technology, we bring sustainable fabrics to the forefront of luxury tailoring, fashion and interior design.
This approach is at the heart of our manifesto, written by Nancy Johnston when she founded Tengri.
Our Manifesto
A declaration of what we believe, our purpose, and how we work.
The Tengri Way
The fashion and textile industries are broken. Sustainable credentials are compromised. Supply chains are opaque.
This must change. Tengri is pioneering a new way of doing business.
Our supply chain is ethical, sustainable and transparent and built on global partnerships. This strengthens the links between fashion and agriculture, helping to protect biodiversity. We buy noble and natural fibres directly from farmers and herders, paying them competitive prices and building enduring relationships.
In the UK, our development team transforms these fibres into exquisitely soft fabrics through cutting-edge design and technological innovation. We integrate the principles of circularity at every stage of our zero-waste value chain.
Supporting biodiversity and fair trade for all stakeholders, we source natural fibres directly from cooperatives that represent more than 4,500 nomadic herder families, with whom we’ve built enduring relationships.
As a social business, we pay premium prices to the herders for their fibres and share profits as part of our fairshare business model.
We transform natural fibres through cutting-edge design and technological innovation, creating exquisitely soft sustainable fabrics.
Defining True Sustainability
To be truly sustainable, every aspect of a business must be considered.
Tengri’s 100% traceable and transparent supply chain ensures the integrity of our fibres and fabrics, which are sourced and created ethically and sustainably.
We believe it’s wrong that up to 90% of raw woollen fibres sourced for the fashion and textile industries go unused. That’s why we’re exploring new products made of this precious by-product, using innovative circular design and systems-thinking that’s built on respect for people, animals and the environment.
Tengri Innovation
To enhance product performance and to minimise waste, we apply innovative design, systems and technology to fibres and yarns.
As part of the Business of Fashion, Textiles and Technology (BFTT) Creative R&D Partnership, we’re working with the London College of Fashion (UAL) to explore the commercial potential of yarn by-products – textile leftovers that are discarded during the production process. This project shows how the industry can aim for zero waste during production.
Nurturing innovation is hugely important at Tengri. The Tengri Innovation Award enables students, recent graduates and newly qualified tailoring professionals to pursue innovative ways of working with textiles, demonstrating a reworking of traditional techniques in a contemporary way.
Uncompromising Natural Performance
Khangai fibres are exquisitely soft, warmer than merino wool, light and breathable, resistant to pilling, water and odours, hypoallergenic, with the strength and durability associated with cervelt (red deer down).
Khangai yaks and camels live in extreme seasonal temperatures, ranging from +40 to -40 degrees Celsius, resulting in fibres with outstanding thermal-regulating properties.
More than Just a Label
Tengri has received numerous awards and international recognition for our work as a collective movement rooted in a deep respect for nature, conservation and global partnerships.
These include the SUSTAINIA Top 100 Sustainable Business Solutions, supporting four UN Sustainable Development Goals, and being selected by the Business of Fashion, Textiles and Technology (BFTT) Creative R&D Partnership to benefit from a 5-year industry-led project to support sustainable growth and innovation.
